If you are enrolled in the Kaiser Permanente Plan, prescription benefits are provided by Kaiser Permanente. Four prescription drug options are available if you are enrolled in the Active Employee Plan. You decide which option to use at the time of purchase.

Many prescription drugs are available as a trademark or “brand” name drug and a chemical or “generic” name drug. By law, brand and generic drugs must meet the same standards for safety and effectiveness as brand name drugs. Obtaining generic drugs, whenever possible can provide you with savings directly (by paying a lower co-payment) and indirectly (because you save the Plan money—which ultimately benefits you).

When you have a prescription filled, you will receive a generic substitute whenever possible, unless your doctor will not allow a generic substitute or you specify otherwise on the order form.
